After taking home the award for Best Picture at the 85th Academy Awards ceremony for his film Argo, actor and director Ben Affleck celebrated at an Oscar’s after-party at Craig’s restaurant in Los Angeles. According to numerous sources, Affleck shaved his beard in a hallway to “mark the end of a chapter.”
The Huffington Post and TMZ have reported that although no photos have emerged of a newly clean-shaven Affleck, the award-winning star was seen by various people at the after-party shaving his beard in a hallway at Craig’s restaurant. A source told Us Weekly, “The whole family was tired of the beard,” and indicated it was Affleck’s wife, actress Jennifer Garner, “who actually brought the clippers to the party.” Argo co-producer George Clooney was reportedly on hand for the beard shaving at Craig’s, according to The Los Angeles Times. E! News reported that Affleck “did it to mark the end of a chapter. It had that ceremonial quality to it.”
While some are speculating the beard had some sort of “superstitious” quality to it as a good luck charm for the film, Affleck has not commented on that aspect of it.
In addition to the Oscar for Best Picture, Affleck’s film Argo took home numerous awards this season, including BAFTAs and Golden Globes for both Best Picture (Argo) and Best Director.
