Whether it’s dry aged, grass fed, organic or whatnot, San Francisco has steakhouses that offers all of these wonderfully well marbled steaks in classic settings where you know the martinis will be strong and dirty and the vegetables, while organic and farm fresh, will be doused in butter and or cream.  These are the top 5 steakhouses in San Francisco:

1 Harris' Restaurant

A haven for those seeking simple cuisine from a simpler time, Harris' is a stalwart place for dry aged beef grilled to perfection.  It's no surprise that this is one of the top places for financial or startup boomers to come for a business dinner.  One of their specialities is a bone in filet that is unparallelled for juiciness and their Filet Rossini (nothing could be a better accompaniment like foie and black truffle).  Start the meal off with their signature and strong martinis (always shaken) in the piano bar that features live jazz every night and finish it with some port while enjoying the beautiful dark wood and leather decor of the main dining room.

2 House of Prime Rib

A SF institution. Obviously, order the prime rib.  If your waistline can handle it, order the second slice as well that's complementary on the house, but you can't take it with you.  The salad is nothing short of invigorating with it bits of beets and citrus vinaigrette.  The cozy and inviting decor has tinges of the English Tutor era that are only emphasized by the classic British dessert like triffle and bread pudding.   It's no surprise that the place gets rather lively and almost boisterous with the strength of their drinks.

3 Boboquivaris

The must have at Boboquivari's is the bone in filet mignon that comes crustily charred on the outside but tender and moist on the inside.  But don't forget about their amazing combination of steak and dungeoness crab.  A festive and lively place, Bobo's doesn't take itself too seriously despite it's seriously delicious food so come with a jovial attitude.

4 Alexander's Steakhouse

Traditional American steak is infused with hints of Japanese flavor at Alexander's Steakhouse.   It opened in Silicon Valley first but after such great success, another outpost opened in SoMa of San Francisco city.   It's well known for the innovative and addictive hamachi shooters.   Those are must haves.  Both restaurants are top notch, with the Silicon Valley place having a Michelin star.

5 5A5 Steak Lounge

Sleek, sexy and modern, 5A5 has the soul of a steakhouse but the dressings of a chic contemporary restaurant.   With it's more supper club stylings, this can be the perfect place to stay all night with dinner first then drinks in the lounge afterwards.   With a selection of beef ranging from American Angus to Japanese Kobe (imported from Australia) and interesting combinations of toppings like kimchi, there's a bite for any meat eater.  Their signature truffle fries are one of the best in the city.
