Where were you born ?
Chico, California
How long in Los angeles:
5 years
Santa Monica
Jack of all trades; master of none; a.k.a.: Hotelier.
Favorite Restaurant:
Vito in Santa Monica for family; Chateau Marmont for entertaining.
Best Sushi:
Mori in West LA.
Best Italian:
Elena and her team at Giorgio Baldi always get it right
Best Sunday brunch:
Begin with Bloody Mary; end with Champagne; all at Bouchon
If you have out of town guests, which hotel would you recommend?
Are you seriously asking me that? Shutters on the Beach of course!
Favorite shopping venue/boutique:
I like James Perse Malibu Lumberyard. It’s terrific and my daughter loves the free-standing aquariums.
Favorite Charity Event:
The Westside Hunger Coalition Annual breakfast. It’s a “graduation” of sorts where homeless men and women receive awards for their accomplishments in overcoming homelessness and becoming self-sufficient. It is probably one of the most moving, humbling events I ever get the privilege to attend.
Favorite Cultural Event:
St. Paul’s Fall Festival
Favorite Cultural Institution:
Dodger Stadium
Best Lunch:
The garden in summer at the Chateau Marmont
Best Gym/Athletic Facility:
SoulCycle Santa Monica. Denis Morton is the man!
Best Limousine/Driving Service:
Wilshire Limousine Service
Best Museum/Exhibit:
We have so many, but I really appreciate Jeffrey Deitch’s eye at MOCA; he has contributed so much to art in Los Angeles
Favorite historic/legendary place to see or explore:
My family and I drive to the lookout point that is right between the Hollywood Bowl and the Hollywood sign, off of Mulholland Drive every year on New Year’s day. It’s always like looking at L.A. for the first time again
Best Steakhouse:
Michael Cardenas’ BOA in Santa Monica.
Best Pizza:
Terroni in Mid-City. They actually have 6 locations I believe; 5 in Toronto (where we fell in love with their pizza when we lived there) and, oddly 1 in L.A., so... Lucky us!
All-around favorite locale in Los Angeles, whether a neighborhood, restaurant, venue, or other
My backyard with family and friends
Best aspect of Los Angeles
This sounds quite “LA”, but it is just the “vibe”. Anything is available here: Oceans and Beaches, great cycling, running and the world’s largest outdoor gym is just steps away from wherever you live. The food is terrific as is the music and art, and of course, this is where movies are made, and where dreams come true. I know because I am living in one every day and I hope I never wake.
