Runway Review: Jason Wu Fall 2013

Call it a fashionable take on The Graduate; at NYFW, Jason Wu showed he’s fallen in love with a very grown-up woman. The 30 year-old prodigy, who recently dressed First Lady Michelle Obama at the President’s second inauguration, told reporters backstage at his show, “It’s all about the embodiment of a woman—powerful, sensual, sexy, glamorous.”

Wu, who recently tapped Stephanie Seymour (one of the original supermodels) as the face of his Spring campaign, sent a decidedly womanly collection down the runway. The girlish prints of his first collections were nowhere to be seen; in their place, a palette of black and white, complemented by the occasional pop of red, blue, and burnt gold. A nipped-in waist (a true waist, not at the hips) powerfully defined feminine curves, further accentuated by luxe materials. Foxfur adorned a satin trench, a belted dressed frothed with ostrich plumes, and a python leather jacket added structure to a flouncy pleated skirt.
