Runway Review: Altuzarra Fall 2013

It seems all of fashion’s young prodigies got the memo: on the runways at NYFW, the look has been all woman, and all power. Joseph Altuzarra brought the trend to new heights, unveiling a collection where luxury and style met as equals. The young designer’s vision for Fall 2013 featured a restrained palette of black and white, rendered in powerful, graphic pieces with an exquisite attention to detail.

The double-breasted suit from the “power-dressing” of the 80s appeared with with exaggerated shoulders on trench coats and dresses, but made contemporary by touches like a leather bustier or oversized shiny buttons. Body-con skirts were slashed with thigh-high slits and asymmetrical cuts exposed sheer chiffon.  Topping things off, literally, was the fur; appearing as everything from a jacket and gloves to a decorative stole.
