LA Chefs Receive Overwhelming 22 James Beard Award Nominations

The James Beard Foundation has just announced an impressive 22 Los Angeles chefs as semifinalists for the 2013 Restaurant Awards. In addition, Austrian restaurant BierBesisl received two semifinal nominations, including Best New Restaurant and Rising Star Chef.

A jury that includes journalists, past nominees and past winners votes on the candidates, according to, and each voter is asked “to have actually experienced a particular restaurant’s atmosphere and food in order to vote for it.”

Los Angeles chefs were received the coveted nominations for semifinalists include Josef Ceneno, David LeFevre, John Rivera Sedlar, Ricardo Zarate, Michael Cimarusti and more. According to, Karen Hatfield of Sycamore Kitchen received a semifinalist nomination for Outstanding Pastry Chef.

The final five nominees will be announced on March 18 during a press conference. For a full list of semifinalist nominations, click here. The 2013 James Beard Foundation Awards will take place on May 3 and 6 in New York City.
