No matter how many new-age restaurants open up, Chicago will always be a Midwestern meat and potatoes kind of city. We have enough amazing steakhouses to make a top 50 list with no drop in quality from beginning to end. But this is a top five list and none of these fine dining establishments will disappoint.

1 Morton's Steakhouse

This basement restaurant has been visited by probably every celebrity and in-the-know person in Chicago. It has garnered tons of awards and accolades including City Search “Best Steak” and Metromix “Best Steakhouse in Chicago.” It would be no exaggeration to say that this is the Godfather of Chicago steakhouses. They take Midwestern grain-fed beef, wet-ages it and broils it until its perfect. A must-visit Chicago culinary destination.

2 Gibson's

This is a classic Chicago steakhouse whose reputation goes beyond the city limits. The New York Times called it the “best bet for steak in Chicago.” It’s a Gold Coast staple (one of many several locations) that offers enormous entrees compared to other steakhouses, and they are all amazing. And besides the steak, it has one of the best crab cakes I have ever tasted.

3 Chicago Chop House

Located in River North in a century-old Victorian brownstone, Chicago Chop House gives you a nostalgic feeling, but you will be immediately brought back to the present when ordering an intense 64-oz porterhouse or 24-oz prime rib that’s bursting with prime-aged flavor. And like every great steakhouse, the USDA Prime steaks are hand cut on site.

4 David Burke's Primehouse

This modern American steakhouse is only a little over six years old but is already making a big mark on the city. Their innovative and eclectic style is directly representative of its owner, David Burke. You have to try the award winning 20-ounce bone-in “South Side” filet mignon that’s aged 55 days in their Himalayan salt-tiled cellar.

5 Mastro's Steakhouse

Mastro’s is a high-end remnant of the old days when meat and potatoes were a point of pride in restaurants. They wet-age their steaks to help maintain their moisture, ensuring that you have a perfectly juicy piece of meat on your plate every time. The food is amazing, the portions are big, and the interior of the restaurant is gorgeously refined.
