Originally, Anne Hathaway planned to wear a Valentino dress to the Academy Awards on Sunday. But merely two hours before the star-studded event, the 30-year-old actress learned that another A-lister would be donning a similar gown on the red-carpet. As a result, Hathaway decided to switch dresses and wear a pale pink Prada frock instead.

“It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans,” Hathaway told Women’s Wear Daily yesterday.

Valentino’s publicity team was unaware of the star’s last minute wardrobe change and sent out a press release about the gown, causing some media outlets to misreport her look’s designer credit.

“Though I love the dress I did wear, it was a difficult last-minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino in honor of the deep and meaningful relationship I have enjoyed with the house and with Valentino himself,” she added. “I deeply regret any disappointment caused.”
