Winter X Games Sets Attendance Records

Winter X Games is a wrap, and a successful one at that. The four-day event broke attendance records and made history with two athletes–Shaun White and Tucker Hibbert–earning their sixth Winter X Games gold medal in a row in their respective sports, snowboard superpipe and snocross. From Thursday through Saturday, 114,500 people made their way to Buttermilk Mountain, with Saturday’s attendance hitting 47,200 and setting a new single-day high.

On Saturday, a free performance by world-renown DJCalvin Harris brought thousands to the venue, topped by the women’s snowboard superpipe and men’s skiing big air that evening. On Sunday, White’s road to six-peating and a free show by Major Lazer saw 31,500 through the venue.

Other weekend highlights included:

  • A performance by Matisyahu at the Marley House early Sunday morning, when he came onto stage around 1 a.m. to a full house at the Crystal Palace Grill.
  • Rock supergroup 123GO! made up of  Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), Stefan Lessard (Dave Matthews Band), Brett Scallions and Ken Schalk of Fuel and Robbie Gennet (Rudy) at the Belly Up Aspen on Saturday evening for ESPN’s private party.
  • Diplo closing out the weekend at the Hotel Jerome for Red Bull’s final party on Sunday.
  • High up at 11,000 feet on Saturday night, Trouble Andrew played a private event hosted by Monster Energy at the Sundeck on top of Aspen Mountain.
