Villa Del Lago And Zacara In Joe Barry Memorial Cup Semifinals After Sunday’s Wins

Polo teams Villa Del Lago and Zacara are one step closer to the Joe Berry Cup Final after winning on Sunday against ERG and Valiente at the International Polo Club in Palm Beach.

Zacara won the 10 a.m. match against Valiente with a final score of 12-11. Adolfo Cambiaso of Valiente scored the first goal in the match during the opening chukker, giving them a quick lead of 1-0. They remained in the lead until the fourth chukker, when hundreds of guests watched as Facundo Pieres raced down the field to score a goal, putting Zacara ahead at 7-6. But Valiente got right back into the game by making a penalty shot followed by an exciting backhanded goal by Cambiaso, putting them in the lead once again at 8-7.

In the final period, Pieres found his way down the field yet again and put Zacara in the lead at 11-10. Valiente’s Cambiaso was able to tie the score again, but in the last minute of regulation time, Pieres scored the final goal, giving the win to Zacara at 12-11.

During the 3 PM match, Villa Del Lago played against ERG and was able to remain in the lead throughout the entire game. Towards the end, Paco de Navaez of ERG made a goal putting the score at 11-10. ERG tried tie the game but during the last three minutes, Villa Del Lago’s defense made sure ERG would not score. Villa Del Lago won the match with the final score of 11-10.

At the Joe Barry Cup semi-finals tomorrow, Villa del Lago will be playing against Audi in the match at 1 p.m., followed by Zacara and Crab Orchard in the 3 p.m. match. Tomorrow’s matches will determine which polo teams will be given a chance to play in the Joe Barry Cup Final this Sunday.
