As The New York Times struggles in the wake of budget cuts and digital media threats, rumors of a buyout have begun circulating. According to New York Magazine, Donald Trump has engaged in more than one meeting to discuss how he might buy the iconic newspaper.

The newspaper has often been described as a trophy of sorts for billionaires, with Mayor Michael Bloomberg commonly mentioned as a potential buyer. Though details regarding Trump’s acquisition strategy remain unknown, it seems unlikely that the Sulzberger family, who controls the company’s voting shares, would welcome his offer.
