Scarlett Johansson Won’t Be Channeling Her Sexy Side In New Broadway Role

Scarlett Johansson may be coming to Broadway, but she’s leaving her sexy side back in LA. The 28-year-old actress with pouty lips and killer curves that repeatedly ranks at the top of every male magazine’s “hot list” says she’s determined to be a more naturalistic Maggie the Cat in a revival of Tennessee Williams’ “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.”

“I think her sexuality is often overplayed and over-appreciated. It’s such an unimportant part of this story,” Johansson told the Associated Press during an early morning rehearsal. “I mean, it comes with the circumstance, of course, and the settling and the words — that’s already there. There’s no need to drape yourself all over the stage and roll around in a satin sheet.”

Other famous starlets including Elizabeth Taylor, Anika Noni Rose, Ashley Judd and Kathleen Turner have also taken on the iconic role — and they’ve all played it to various breathless, sexy degrees. Taylor spent the majority of her time on stage virtually purring in a satin slip!

But Johansson wants none of that, even if it puts a dent in the box office. “There’s always the half-price ticket line,” quipped the Hollywood heavyweight.

As Haute Living reported earlier, Johansson will earn a minimum payment of $40,000 per week for her starring role. “It’s really a beautiful play, really a perfect play, I think,” she says. “If the play fails, it’s our fault.”
