Sheila Vance is the CEO and designer of luxury fashion eyewear line Sama Eyewear. This entrepreneur is always looking for cool new collaborations, such as her line with Loree Rodkin, Loree Rodkin Eye Couture, as well as a partnership with high-end fashion line L’Agence. Where were you born ?
How long in Los angeles:
Mulholland Drive, Beverly Hills
While I am first and foremost a designer of eyewear, I truly consider myself a creative person who has a vision for design that applies to many things in my life. Having had other design careers from fabrics and bedding to accessories and even my store’s design, where I collaborated on or designed many of the furnishings inside myself.
Bouchon - my secret for lunch is to sit downstairs at Bar Bouchon - quick service, delicious and fresh salads - the Grilled salmon salad is my favorite. It is the one spot in Los Angeles that makes me feel like I am sitting in Europe - with the bougainvillea and stone archways down the open corridor on the garden level.

Best Sunday brunch:
Bouchon Bistro upstairs on the balcony overlooking the Beverly Park is a special spot for brunch. Quiche is always fantastic - a perfect meal actually. And if they happen to be serving Chicken and Waffles - you are in for a real treat.
Best place for a power business meeting:
Soho House on the lower level of the Garden Dining Room - which was designed by Waldo Fernandez. It is gorgeous and magical for dinner when lit at night, but it is also a perfect spot for a meeting by day. They have a corner section that looks up to the Hollywood Hills that can seat up to 10 comfortably and feels so bright and lovely by day - everyone feels happy and in a good mood instead of meeting at the office around a conference room table.
If you have out of town guests, which hotel would you recommend?
Favorite shopping venue/boutique:
Favorite shopping is coming down Brighton in Beverly Hills - our Destination Sama Store is in between Teuscher Chocolate shop and Bruno Cuccunelli. But you can find everything. From a chic paper shop down the street to Chanel on one corner, Guisippe Zanotti, and Verhnier Jewelry...and a perfect little coffee vintage Beverly Hills shop is a cross the way - nothing is better than our neighborhood.
Aida Thibiant – the environment is perfect for relaxing and perfect for de-stressing
Favorite Charity Event:
Chrysalis Butterfly Ball. We always have this event on our calendar to attend.
Favorite Cultural Event:
Favorite Cultural Institution:
I am most excited about the opening of the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, which is opening in Beverly Hills Fall 2013.
Unfortunately I do not eat meat
Although I love the restaurants in Los Angeles. There is nothing better than eating lunch at home.
Best Gym/Athletic Facility:
Living in Los Angeles the entire city from beach to mountains is the best athletic facility you could ask for. With our weather conditions and the incredible trails and beach front in our "yard" - the best gym for me is Franklin Canyon where I hike up to 8 miles at times in a day and never get bored. It is the greatest accomplishment to finish and the view at the top beats any run on the treadmill where the finish line is so anti-climactic and has no fresh air or skyline to take in. On a clear day you cannot believe how far you can see - literally from downtown to the coastline.
LACMA – they always feature great exhibits to make each experience there memorable.
Favorite historic/legendary place to see or explore:
The Walt Disney Music Hall I always take people to see. Frank Gehry’s design truly brings life to downtown Los Angeles. Griffith Observatory is also a special place to escape to day or night. v
Best place for a romantic date:
Bel Air Hotel. The perfect place to start your evening with a drink at the bar, enjoy an elegant dinner and finish with a stroll by the swans.
All-around favorite locale in Los Angeles, whether a neighborhood, restaurant, venue, or other
Best aspect of Los Angeles
After 30 years here in Los Angeles, I’d say without a doubt it’s the people.
