Hurricane Sandy Relief Concert Raised Over $30 Million

A mind-blowing combination of music all-stars, comedians and A-list celebrities gathered at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 12 to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Though donations from the phone and internet are still being tallied, the 12-12-12 concert has already raised $30 million in ticket revenue, sponsorships and corporate donations. Event organizers are hoping to exceed the $56 million accrued by the “Concert for New York City” for 9/11 victims.

Additional funds will also be raised through merchandise sales, auctions of autographed items, CD and DVD sales and downloads of songs from iTunes. “Those will take longer to come in and compile,” said Patty Smith, a spokeswoman for the foundation that organized the event. A more complete total will be published by about Dec. 17, she said.

The epic lineup featured some of most popular U.S. and British artists, including Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, The Who, Eric Clapton and Alicia Keys.
