Bo Derek Inaugurates International Polo Club Palm Beach’s 10th Anniversary Season

Palm Beach Polo Season starts on Sunday, January 6 with a coin toss by America’s most perfect “10,” Bo Derek. It’s a fitting choice for the polo club, which is kicking off its 10th Anniversary Season. But it’s not just her 1980’s numerical rating which won her the honors, Derek often frequents the Santa Barbara Polo Club, which is near her Santa Ynez ranch in California, and penned the book: Everything That Matters in Life I Learned from Horses.

This year promises to be a big one for the polo club and the opening game will feature the finals of the season-opening, 20-goal Herbie Pennell Cup. IPC club president, John Wash, says he feels that the 2013 polo tournament season will be the best the Club has ever hosted.

This season, eight of the world’s 10-goal polo players will compete in IPC tournaments, a real treat for pony fans.  “It has taken a great deal of dedication and hard work to get to where we are today,” said Wash. “We continue to attract not only the top players and teams from around the globe, but we have managed to attract and keep the top polo tournaments in North America with the C.V. Whitney Cup, the USPA PIAGET Gold Cup, and the prestigious USPA Maserati 109th U.S. Open Championship.”
