Haute Interview: Tuning in with Charlotte Ronson

Jet-set fashion darling Charlotte Ronson keeps her siblings very close even if she’s just listening to their latest albums while in her own studio working on her latest collection. Charlotte Ronson is Samantha’s twin sister and the younger sister of music maker Mark. With a busy social schedule and even busier work, catching up with Charlotte is a hard thing to do, but when it happens, it’s a blast. Haute Living found her, fittingly, at a party for Absolut Vodka’s new flavor, Absolute Tune at Miami Beach’s Standard Hotel.

SF: How did you get into fashion?

CR: I would always dress in my mother’s clothes, she has an amazing wardrobe. And I would always come up with different outfits and that’s really how I found out this is what I want to be doing. I interned, interned, interned. I interned with Haarper’s Bazaar and Cynthia Rowley and I got a lot of experience from that.

SF: What inspired you to get into fashion?

CR: I think at a young age I was always drawn to fashion. Having a twin sister and being dressed the same your whole early life; when I was old enough I wanted to dress as my own and define myself apart from that. My connection to fashion was unquestionable, since I’ve always had an eye for it.

SF: What inspires you most when you’re designing a new collection?

CR: Everything around me from a postcard to vintage shopping. I take pieces from all the places I’ve been to and stay in tune with what trends are taking flight. There’s this great costume warehouse out west. It’s great for inspiration. They have different types of costumes from all periods.

SF: Which artists are in your heavy rotation?

CR: I like Bruno Mars’ new song “Locked out of Heaven” that my brother worked on. I have Bruno Mars fever (laughs). I like to listen to all types of music but what I’m listening to most now is my sister, Samantha; she has her album out on iTunes. I always like to have that on.

SF: What is your favorite piece from the new collection?

CR: I love the whole collection and also what I presented in Switzerland [this year], because it’s made to fit women of all different body types. But I guess this is my favorite piece, I am wearing it. (in photo)

SF: If you weren’t doing fashion, what would you do?

CR: I really can’t think of anything else I would be doing but fashion. It’s what I am meant to be doing.

SF: You have your eponymous collection and a makeup line with Sephora, what’s next for Charlotte Ronson?

CR: And my line with JC Penny [CRonson], I’ve been doing so much. I’m starting a new line with my best friend Shoshanna. I have a lot on my plate right now but I’m satisfied with where I am right now.  Photo Credit: Seth Browarnik/ World Red Eye
