Penthouse Sells in Landmark High-Rise

After sitting on the market for more than two years the Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed high-rise condo at 880 North Lake Drive has finally been sold. The huge 3,400 square foot, 26th floor penthouse was listed for $1.975 million and ultimately sold for $1.7 million.

The condo’ s size comes from taking four smaller apartments and combining them. According to several sources when the units were first combines it was basically a huge hideous mess. The condo was bought in 2005 by a couple that extensively and meticulously renovated the unit. Now as you can see from the photos it’s very modern and stunning. The rehab was grounded in pure simplicity, so it’s a very clean space that doesn’t have overwhelming embellishments.

The 880 North Lake Shore Drive building is one half of a pair of Mies designed buildings that were deemed “The Glass House” due to the mostly all window exteriors. Both buildings were built with a “less is more” approach. They are both 26 stories tall and were positioned to maximize the lake and city views.

The listing agent was Rachel Bailey of Prudential Rubloff. She can be reached at 312-264-5311 or rbailey@rubloff.com.
