The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy has left many devastated with the loss of family, homes and just about everything that could be thought of. So, in efforts to raise money for these disaster victims many well-known performers joined together in a benefit concert.
The star-studded concert held on Friday, helped to raise nearly $23 million in donations to the American Red Cross, with special performances by natives of the areas that were hit the hardest by Sandy, such as New York Long Island native Billy Joel, New Jersey natives Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen. Others that also took part in the hour-long telethon included Mary J. Blige, Jon Stewart, Sting, Tina Fey and Christina Aguilera who belted out “Beautiful.”
According to NBCUniversal and the American Red Cross, pledges totaled $22.9 million via online and telephone, making this special event a great success.
Last week’s Sandy assault created a widespread of power outages and damage, along with a staggering death toll of more than 100 people in 10 states.
