Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana has the fever! The Bieber fever, that is. Santana, 65, stoked speculation about a possible collaboration with pop sensation Bieber, 18. The musician has found success with unexpected collaborations in the past, including his Grammy-award winning 1999 album “Supernatural” which featured Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas. On his Facebook page, Santana said it was “not impossible” that he forge a future partnership with anyone from Bieber to Lady Gaga or even tenor Andrea Bocelli. “It’s a matter of the right song and some willingness,” said Santana. Steve Jobs
Almost a year after his death, tech pioneer Steve Jobs is still contributing to the world of design. The Netherlands-based shipbuilders Feadship have unveiled the Venus, a luxury yacht Jobs had developed with French designer Philippe Starck prior to his death in 2011 from pancreatic cancer. True to Jobs’ design legacy, the 260-foot lightweight aluminum vessel features the same sleek minimalism associated with Apple products. The collaboration, which began some five years ago, has resulted in an elegant, intelligent vessel with a polished white hull and curved lines. After its unveiling, Starck said he was proud of the Venus and its reflection of Jobs’ legendary vision.
Harvey Weinstein
In a plot that could have been lifted from one of his award-winning movies, producer Harvey Weinstein has survived death threats and an extortion attempt. The Hollywood heavyweight was among a handful of moguls and millionaires who received threats from aspiring actor Vivek Shah, 25. In a letter, Weinstein, 60, was told to wire money to an offshore bank account to forestall any harm to his loved ones. Luckily, federal authorities intervened before any harm was done, arresting Shah, whom viewers may recognize from a bit part on the Fox-network television show “Bones”.
George Lucas
The force remains strong. Disney has got Star Wars fans excited with news of their $4.05 billion purchase of George Lucas’ production company Lucasfilm Ltd. Following the sale, Lucas confirmed speculation that Disney will produce a new film for the famed series. Officials announced that “Star Wars: Episode 7” will hit theatres as soon as 2015, with further plans for for a number of new episodes. Lucas lauded the sale, saying “For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. It’s now time for me to pass ‘Star Wars’ on to a new generation of filmmakers.”
Craig Newmark
The Internet Hall of Fame has officially welcomed Craig Newmark, founder of the eponymous San Francisco-based website Craigslist. Newmark, 59, was honored by the Swiss-based Internet Society as one of their “Pioneers, Innovators and Global Connectors.” Newmark founded the simple, easy-tonavigate Craigslist website in 1995, taking it public in 1999. Since that time, the website has revolutionized the concept of the classifieds, transforming listings from a printed to virtual domain. Meanwhile, Newmark remains humble, saying of his induction; “I’m just a nerd sitting behind a desk with a screen in front of me.”
Clint Eastwood
Starlets, take note. Legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood is on the lookout for a new leading lady for his remake of the film “A Star is Born.” Singer and actress Beyonce Knowles had been slated to play Esther Hoffman, a role made famous by Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland in previous productions of the story. However, it was recently announced that Knowles was forced to drop out of the highly-anticipated flick due to scheduling conflicts. Eastwood, 82, has won multiple awards for his work behind the camera, including Best Director for his 2004 film “Million Dollar Baby.”
