A. George Lucas

Iconic director George Lucas has announced a new addition to the Star Wars canon. Star Wars Detours is a cartoon Lucas has developed for television in collaboration with Seth Green, Matt Senreich, and Todd Grimes, creators of cult-favorite show Robot Chicken. Taking place between Episode III and Episode IV, Detours takes a comedic look at what daily life is like for Princess Leia, Han, Chewie and all the rest, in a galaxy far, far away. Lucas made a surprise appearance at the fan convention Star Wars Celebration 6 in Orlando, Fla. to announce the series, which was originally developed by the Robot Chicken team to poke fun at the movies’ idiosyncrasies. Green recalls how when he first heard Lucas was on the phone and wanted to discuss the project, he was afraid he was about to be sued. Instead, Lucas said, “You guys think you’re pretty fucking funny, don’t you? So, how about we do something funny together?” Though no release date has been confirmed, the project is expected to hit TVs by 2013.

B. Larry Ellison

Larry Ellison, the billionaire co-founder and CEO of Oracle Corporation, one of the world’s leading enterprise software companies, has made waves with the purchase of a new $37 million mansion. Located on the beach in Malibu, California, the home previously belonged to exec Terry Semel, who was most recently CEO at Yahoo! The unique property features nearly 151 feet of beachfront, and includes nine bedrooms, 13.5 bathrooms, a threestory rotunda, outdoor pool, jacuzzi, gazebo, guest house, gym and a screening room. This is just the latest acquisition to be added to Ellison’s impressive real estate portfolio. Since 2005, the Oracle tycoon has spent upwards of $500 million snapping up real estate in Pacific Heights in San Francisco, Newport, Rhode Island, and Carbon Beach in Malibu.

C. Michael Mina

Restauranter extraordinaire Michael Mina wowed the crowds at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival with an eponymous pop-up restaurant. The kitchens from a number of Mina’s iconic restaurants, including RN74, Michael Mina, and Bourbon Steak, participated in these Michael Mina Pop Ups. In a forested thicket of San Francisco’s historic Golden Gate Park, Mina set up shop in the new lamb-focused section of this food festival, aptly named “Outside Lambs” food court. Using local, sustainable, allnatural lamb from the nearby Superior Farms in Dixon, Mina produced a delicious array of gourmet lamb dishes. Though festival-goers had to hike through the forest for a few minutes to reach the “Outside Lambs” area, Mina’s famously delicious cooking made it well worth the trip.

Fans will be able to use an iPad to watch live replays from the ongoing game or order food from the concession stands in the building.

E. Sheryl Sandberg

To be published by Knopf, the book will relate Sandberg’s own experience from her rise to the top as one of the most buzzed-about women in the tech industry. Sandberg has used her speaking engagements at platforms like the TED Talk and commencement addresses to encourage women to “lean in,” rather than lean back, from the challenges of rising to the top.
