London is one of the most unique and culturally rich cities in the world and what better way to explore this than through photographs? The World In London exhibit, which will remain in display at Park House following the Olympic and Paralympic games, is an outdoor photography project that puts London’s mélange of diverse cultures on display by representing each of the competing countries. Over the past three years 204 emerging photographers, both British and international, were enlisted to each take one photograph of a Londoner. There are old, young, rich, poor, those who seem to be content and others who look far from it, but the one thing that ties them all together is their diversity. The faces come from every ethnic background imaginable, and they were brought together in effort to boost cultural understanding both in the capital city and beyond. A simple but incredibly powerful idea.
The project, which has been years in the making and has involved hundreds of people, was organised by The Photographers’ Gallery and supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and ACE.
