Susan Sarandon and her partners at SPiN have recently collaborated with hotelier Andre Balazs to create a new downtown location at The Standard in the heart of L.A. For many who may not know SPiN L.A. is the company that debuted several upscale table tennis/ bar spots throughout Toronto, New York and Milwaukee.
The newest swanky location SPiN L.A. will launch early this fall right on the mezzanine floor of Balazs’ hotel The Standard Downtown, a place where guests can enjoy daytime activities such as ping pong and a lively night party scene all seven days of the week.
“This is really hands-free, worry-free,” Sarandon said. “Andre really knows what he’s doing, so I have complete trust in his ability to make this the best ping pong club ever in L.A. for sure.”
Sharandon and her partners, Jonathan Brickin, Franck Raharinosy and Andrew Gordon have been planning to explore new ventures in this area for some time, but due to liquor licenses and permits the co-owners have not been successful until now.
The actress is eager to bask in the success of her newest collaboration. “So people have to be able to come down during the day and park pretty inexpensively, and families can come as well as a nightclub and special events space.”
Here’s what Balazs had to say about the SPiN L.A. addition to his prominent luxury hotel. “We’ve had ping pong tables when we opened the first Standard in Hollywood 12 years ago,” he said. “We’ve had a table at the Chateau for 20 years and we did the Biergarten four years ago… The fact that we now have 10 tables in one location as opposed to two is a minor detail.”
However, the hotelier and SPiN co-owners are looking forward to opening with a bang! In fact there will be a number of tournaments at both Standard hotels in New York and Miami that will include teams from The Webster, Milk Studios, Tumblr, The Whitney and Vimeo to the help with the launch of SPiN L.A.
