Our annual Haute 100 list is a compilation of the most influential individuals in business, technology, fashion and other top industries. We don’t have to search far to find the 100 most intriguing and successful people in Los Angeles. But it can be quite a task to keep up with them, as these power players are launching iPad apps, earning prestigious awards and even getting engaged. As such, a yearly update simply isn’t enough.
A. JEFFREY KATZENBERG NAMED 2012 CINEMACON PIONEER OF THE YEAR
Chairman of DreamWorks Animation and Haute 100 lister Jeffrey Katzenberg was named this year’s recipient of the prestigious Pioneer Of The Year award by the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation. On April 25, a dinner was held at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas to praise Katzenberg for receiving CinemaCon’s distinguished title. Cameron Diaz, Jack Black and Antonio Banderas attended the dinner to honor Katzenberg.
Katzenberg is the mind behind wildly successful animated films such as Shrek, Madagascar and Megamind.
B. QUINCY JONES AND THE JAZZ FOUNDATION OF AMERICA TAKE OVER HARLEM
Quincy Jones, along with 40 other music legends, helped present The Jazz Foundation of America’s 11th annual “A Great Night In Harlem” at the Apollo Theater in May.
The Foundation has been dedicated to saving the homes and lives of elder jazz and blues musicians for over 23 years. They now assist in more than 6,000 cases a year, including New Orleans musicians and their children still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. This year the event benefited the Jazz Musicians Emergency Fund. Performers included Macy Gray, the Treme Brass Band, Victor Lewis and the Kansas City Band featuring Steven Bernstein, among others.
C. ANGELINA JOLIE AND BRAD PITT CONFIRM ENGAGEMENT
Unstoppable power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt confirmed their engagement in April, and Jolie’s stunningly adorned ring finger is the proof.
After years of being a couple, with a full house of six children, the two are finally planning to tie the knot. Jolie’s diamond—which came from jeweler Robert Procop—is worth an estimated $500,000.
D. WOLFGANG PUCK GOES DIGITAL WITH NEW IPHONE/IPAD APP
World famous chef Wolfgang Puck is now providing iPhone and iPad users the opportunity to cook just like him—well, almost.
With his new application, “Live Love Eat,” foodies will have access to the chef’s personal favorite recipes, a variety of cooking demonstration videos with different techniques, and the ability to make one-call restaurant reservations.
The app is guaranteed to be just as successful as everything else the haute chef cooks up.
E. MARK WAHLBERG BRINGING NEW DRAMA TO TV
Mark Wahlberg’s Closest to the Hole productions is teaming up with A&E to bring a new cutting edge drama to television. Wahlberg has partnered with the network for an unscripted pilot set in his hometown of Boston.
The series, which is currently titled Teamsters, will follow the members of Boston’s Local 25 union. The familiar real-life setting, used by Wahlberg in films such as The Departed and The Fighter, will serve as the backdrop of the storyline.
