Hey Honey Child,
Like many, when I was growing up, I didn’t really think about the “Big Picture”. I focused on doing well in high school so that I could succeed and go to a good university where I would then pursue my career and reach the pinnacle of success for– you guessed it– me. Everything was about Tracy and what I wanted from life. Now, while there is nothing inherently wrong with wanting personal success and achievements (in fact, we should strive for it), it is important to note that our triumphs are really part of a greater mission. Time has taught me that it is in different stages that we truly realize what life is all about. As I have grown into a GODDESS…and a SOULMATE, and a MOTHER, and a FRIEND, I have come to realize that my culmination of experiences was simply preparation to allow me to be of service to others.
Sometimes we have to take that leap of faith and follow our hearts. Oprah aptly declared, “That whisper you keep hearing is the universe trying to get your attention.” Just once, listen to it. That leap we take in faith may not always be in the direction we planned it to be— but it will be the right direction. In 2002, I took a chance and paid attention to that immutable whisper and founded the Honey Shine Mentoring Program. Encouraging young girls, giving them a place to hone their talents so that their lights can shine for the world… that was my calling.
In Honey Shine, in the eyes of little women who will become giants, I found what we are all searching for: joy and my calling. If you follow your passion, you’ll live your purpose too. I promise.
