Some Russian train stations may soon be outfitted with luxury 5-star dining options as the country attempts to revive train travel.
According to Russian Railways stations department head, Sergei Abramov, train stations acorss Russia are planning on luxury-class restaurants in an effort to change the notoriously grim perception many train stations have in the country.
“We are opening brand-name restaurant in railway stations, where you come not to wait for the departure or arrival of a train, but to spend free time. These restaurants will present premium-class services,” Abramov said.
The railway company is partnering with chain restaurants, such as Svezhy Veter, to open eateries throughout Russia, including regional stations. Svezhy Veter has already opened a food court at Leningradsky Station and have plans to do the same thing at Kievsky and Paveletsky stations.
According to Dmitry Pisarenko, stations department communications head, “The goal of the current project is to change the reputation of train stations. It is so that people cannot only use transportation services, but also get a cultural experience.”
