Halekulani unveils its renewed property

It took more than $50 million and four years to finish a comprehensive renewal of the Halekulani — and finally, this week, the massive facelift was done.

What started in 2008 with repairing and refinishing marble floors and installing new wall coverings and light fixtures wrapped up a complete renewal of the luxe Waikiki hotel.

The second phase of work, which started last September, including updating each of the 453 guest rooms and suites. Bathrooms were overhauled and new carpet was installed. Linens and beddings were changed out and in-room technology was enhanced. Even the lanai got new furniture.

But the work wasn’t confined to guest rooms. The hotel itself got a fresh coat of paint, new carpet and other updates. The artwork featured on the walls of the hotel were reframed, too.

“The ‘Renewal of Halekulani’ provides a unique opportunity for us to reexamine the iconic values that have built its legacy,” said Peter Shaindlin, chief operating officer of Halekulani Corp. in a news release. “Drawn from the values that have established the Halekulani brand, the completion of the ‘Renewal’ reflects our commitment to remain true to the hotel’s original spirit while evolving and enhancing the unique experience for which we have also come to be known — providing our guests with a journey of transcendence and fulfillment that cannot be replicated.”

As part of the Renewal, new and enhanced culinary programs and menus are also being unveiled, including a unique new bar concept, L’Aperitif at La Mer, a newly styled Afternoon Tea experience and new menus throughout the property.
