The global launch of the limited edition Ampoules wine, the only wine completely encased in glass, will take place in Moscow with Penfolds Chief Winemaker Peter Gago.

As the leading producer of Australian fine wine, Penfolds is launching its limited edition 2004 Block 42, a rare, single vineyard wine in Moscow. The twelve limited edition Ampoules are expected to retail for $168,000 each, making it the most expensive wine directly sold from a winery in the world.

Produced from the oldest continuously producing Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the world, Penfolds 2004 Block 42 is the only wine released that has been completely encased in glass – no cork and no screw cap. The wine’s glass sculpture was designed and hand-blown by Nick Mount, a glass artists from Adelaide, South Australia. The case was designed to store the wine in an ideal environment as a beautiful, thoughtful and unique art object.

Penfolds Chief Winemaker, Peter Gago will be present at the global launch in Moscow.

Gago said, “Behind every Penfolds wine is the joy, energy, research and science that shapes it. The Ampoule Project is typical of the pioneering philosophy behind Penfolds’ winemaking evolution. The collaboration with South Australia’s finest artists has been a fitting tribute for one of South Australia’s finest wines.”
