After undergoing extensive renovations and remodeling, the former Sunset 5 theater in West Hollywood is gearing up for its big reveal. The grand opening will take place on August 31, preceded by three pre-opening events that will benefit local non-profit organizations.

According to a Sundance Cinemas release, the theater’s new aesthetics include rustic, elegant and comfortable designs. Having taken the original theater down to the base, the company has put in all new digital presentation systems, updated reserved stadium seating with plush seats and a new lobby that has a Bistro serving classic movie snacks, beer and wine.

Sundance Group President, Robert Redford, and Sundance Cinemas President and CEO Paul Richardson have said the new theater is a “gem located in the heart of West Hollywood.”

Redford added, “I discovered my love of movies at a little single screen theater on the west side of Los Angeles as a boy. Having this ‘hometown’ theater dedicated to exhibiting the work of independent filmmakers is a considerable goal achieved, and having the Sundance Institute as a neighbor and collaborator on special programs will be a tremendous asset to our patrons.”

Programming at the theater will be mainly American Independent and foreign language titles.

On August 27 “A Celebration of Film: Sundance Institute” event will take place. On August 28 “Filmmakers and the Community: Outfest” will be held and on August 29 “San Rocks & Sea: Heal the Bay, A Night to Benefit Rivers, Beaches & Oceans” will be held. The pre-opening events are all open to the public and tickets can be purchased through the non-profit organizations involved.
