The twenty-third annual GLAAD Media Awards took place in San Francisco last weekend and featured a slew of Hollywood stars such as Glee actress Dianna Agron, who hosted the gala, Mario Lopez, Rita Moreno and Chandler Massey.

Days of Our Lives was honored for its coming-out storyline involving Will Hordan and Shonda Rhimes received the Golden Gate Award.

Rhimes said, “I think that love is universal. And I think in telling LGBT stories, I’m telling everyone’s story. I want my daughters to grow up in a world in which there is more love than hate. I want them to know a world where everyone is free. So that’s why I write the stories that I do.”

Other celebrities in attendance included Adam Pally, Sean Maher, Guillermo Diaz, Shay Mitchell, Ian Harding, Amber Benson, Thomas Roberts, Janet Mock and Zack Wahls.

Grey’s Anatomy won for Outstanding Dramatic Series and the Outstanding Digital Journalism Article went to the Huffington Post for Adam Rosenthal’s “Adam and Pete: Love in a Time of War.”

Facebook COO Sheryl Sanberg said she was “thankful that GLAAD has recognized our commitment to helping young people make safe, smart and responsible choices online and offline.”
