Plans to build an underwater hotel in Dubai have just been announced. Building company Drydocks World has just signed a contract with Swiss firm BIG InvestConsult to develop the discus-shaped hotel, which will be partially underwater.

No stranger to unique and somewhat obscure designs, Dubai is set to receive an underwater discus hotel, which will include 21 rooms located up to 10m below the surface next to an underwater dive center and bar. The technology for this project is by Deep Ocean Technology, who said the hotel will “help fulfill travelers’ desire to explore the depths of the oceans.”

A BIG InvestConsult spokesperson said, “Today, the advent of new technology made the heart of the ocean a setting not only for diving, but also for luxurious holidays. Now the innovative concept of Water Discus Hotel makes it all possible.”

Made of two discs, one above water and one underwater, Water Discus Hotel’s two parts will be connected by three legs and a vertical shaft containing an elevator and stairway. Guests of the hotel will be able to use miniature vehicles from inside their rooms to take photos of surrounding sea creatures.

Bogdan Gutkowski, President of BIG INVEST Group, said, “This combination will allow guests to admire the depths of the ocean while making the most of the warm climate. Water Discus Hotel project opens many new fields of development for the hotel and tourism sector, housing and city sector in the coastal off-shore areas, as well as new opportunities for ecology support by creation of underwater ecosystems and activities on underwater world protection.”
