Nocturnal Muscovites Stay Up For “Museum Night”

Over 900,000 Muscovites had their own night at the museum as Russia kicked off its “Museum Night” on May 19.  Museums and galleries opened extra late and held special events and exhibits during the night for Moscow locals and tourists.

The annual event was the largest yet as over 180 galleries, theaters, museums and private collections opened for the night festivities.  The State Treyakov Gallery, the Multimedia Art Museum, the Tsarisyno, Kolomenskoye and Ismailovo museums, the Retro Cars Museum, the Great Patriotic War Museum, the Museum of GULAG History, the Mayakocsky and Bulgakoc museums, the ARTPLAY Design Center and Modern Art Center “Vinzavod all participated in “Musuem Night,” which originated in Berlin in 1999.
