Maserati Miami Beach Polo World Cup VIII Wraps Up

Four days into this year’s beach polo competition on South Beach, turbulent weather brought the tournament to an abrupt halt; the three final matches of Maserati Miami Beach Polo World Cup VIII were cancelled on Sunday, April 29th. The competition consisted of 14 teams of the sport’s most accomplished players with each team competing for the Maserati South Beach Women’s Beach Polo Cup and the Maserati Miami Beach Polo World Cup.

The event has become one of the most popular sporting events in the country with some of the world’s top polo players flying in from as far as Zambia, Brazil, Italy, Malaysia and Argentina to compete. This year’s winner in the elite women’s division was the HEYS Luggage team, scoring a hard-fought 3 to 1 win over Lufthansa Private Jet with team captain Cecelia Cochran garnering MVP honors. The Bvlgari team managed a 1 to 0 defensive victory against the CÎROC team, while Maserati, The Raleigh and Yellow Cab all scored wins during Friday and Saturday matches; a close competition that would have set the stage for a dynamic face-off had the weather permitted.

In addition to matches, this year’s Maserati Miami Beach Polo World Cup included a private event hosted by Maserati and Bvlgari. The fete included the presentation of the Octo Maserati timepiece at the Setai hotel, in addition to a fashion show by Meghan Walsh, daughter of John Walsh, who showcased her “Blank Silk” line of Indian-inspired daytime and eveningwear.

The official sponsors of this year’s event included Maserati, CÎROC, HEYS USA Group, La Martina, Don Miguel Gascón Winery, Triumph Motorcycles, The Raleigh, CÎROC, Lufthansa Private Jets, Bvlgari and Esquire magazine, with support from the GMCVB and Miami Beach VCA. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami and The Voss Foundation were the tournament’s official charity organizations. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami will receive a portion of funds raised through ticket sales from the event.

The Miami Beach Polo World Cup is produced by the event’s founding organization, ACT Productions and The Polo Life, LLC, based in Miami Beach and owned by President and CEO Bruce Orosz.
