Before the opening of James Franco’s MOCA exhibit, the well-known actor always had an idea of making a movie that captured the making of Rebel without a Cause, but instead put together this exhibition, which will be held at the JF Chen warehouse located at 941 N. Highland. The very beauty of this exhibit is that it is that Franco mastered recreating Chateau Marmont.
From the very entrance into the exhibit, there are short films, video art and photography of a replica of the Chateau Marmont courtyard and bungalows projected on the walls, given it a very theme-like feel that captures the film Rebel without a Cause, not to mention the making of the film. James Franco and other artists that made this night possible, like Aaron Young, Damon McCarthy, Terry Richardson, Ed Ruscha, Paul McCarthy, Harmony Korine, Galen Pehrson and Douglas Gordan took time out to really capture the film.
Participating artists, Jeffrey Deitch, Paul McCarthy, Harmony Korine and James Franco spoke about the work in depth, during a media preview last Saturday, which then led up to a VIP preview from 6 pm to 8 pm. But the night was not yet over, the exhibition produced by Commonwealth Projects was officially opened to the public from 8pm- 10pm and can be viewed from now to June 23, 2012.
