Haute Fashion Daily: Nicholas Kirkwood Opens First U.S. Location in Meatpacking District

Luxury shoemaker Nicholas Kirkwood opened a new 140-sqm boutique in New York’s Meatpacking District. Located on Washington Street, the shop features elements of the design concept seen in the brand’s recently opened Mayfair, London flagship store.

According to Kirkwood, he chose the Meatpacking District because there weren’t any streets he liked in Soho and “uptown spaces were just too small.”

“I like the idea of doing something else that you can kind of walk around and explore it. It kind of has a gallery-esque feeling, without being quite as cold as a gallery,” Kirkwood said.

The new boutique features Kirkwood’s complete collection in addition to collaborations with Prabal Gurung, Rodarte and the Keith Haring Foundation. Featuring exposed brick walls, a wrap-around window and a private courtyard, the boutique is located at 807 Washington next to The High Lane above-ground park and near the Whitney Museum of Art, SoHo House and The Gansevoort Hotel. It is the brand’s first U.S. location.

RKF Vice President Joshua Strauss said, “The brand sought an exclusive location similar to its London boutique and found this in the Meatpacking District, where there is a growing co-tenancy of designer labels including Jeffrey’s Intermix, Zac Posen, Scoop, Ports 1961, Christian Louboutin, Maison Martin Margiela, among others.”
