Floating Mini City to Operate as International Extension of Silicon Valley

Located in international waters outside Silicon Valley, a project called the Blueseed is visualized as a floating city. Planned to provide housing, working space and entertainment options, Blueseed is the brainchild of Max Marty and Dario Mutabdzija and lead by venture capitalist and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel.

Though the details of the project are still being ironed out, it’s likely that a large barge or cruise ship will be converted into an island. Stationed 12 nautical miles from the coast of California, more than 100 international technology companies have interest in becoming residents of the floating city because its location will enable non-U.S. startup entrepreneurs to work close to Silicon Valley without the need for a U.S. work visa.

The project is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2013.
