Bolshoi Theatre To Host Gala Celebrating Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts

After 100 years of amazing art, the Pushkin Museum will get an elite birthday bash, courtesy of the Bolshoi Theatre tonight May 31.

As part of the celebration, the Pushkin Museum is presenting several international exhibitions. One of them called ‘The Imaginary Museum’ features 46 masterpieces provided courtesy of the leading international museums, including the French Louvre and Pompidou Center, London’s Royal Academy and Madrid’s Prado, as well as the national museums of Germany, Sweden, Poland, and Belgium.

The museum has housed works by notable artists such as Rembrandt Modigliani, Dali, Picasso and Italian futurists.

Ivan Tsvetayev, founder of the Pushkin, believed it was his generation’s responsibility to preserve art for future generations. What started out as a “cabinet of fine arts and antiquities”  at the Moscow University turned into one of Russia’s major depositories of the world art.

Pushkin Museum owns over 670,000 paintings, sculptures, and archaeological finds. There are also several workshops attached to the museum, and one of Moscow’s top science library.

Happy Birthday Pushkin!
