Violist and conductor Yury Bashmet is known for his participation in numerous music festivals as either artistic director or principal attraction. Now in its second year, the Khabarovsk International Music Festival welcomed Bashmet and his musical entourage.
Yury Bashmet is actively involved approximately a dozen musical festivals such as “December Nights” and music and arts festivals in regional centers. Last year he joined the Khabarovsk International Music Festival when it was in its first year and now, in its second year, the Festival has welcomed the violist and conductor back. Beginning on April 3 and running through this Friday, the Festival brought in Bashmet’s own Moscow Soloists chamber orchestra along with various instrumental soloists from Russia and abroad.
Bashmet’s appearance at the Festival is seen as one of special importance as he is able to bring in full audiences of unpretentious and attentive guests.
The Khabarovsk International Music Festival included a performance by Bashmet’s Moscow Soloists who were formed by the conductor in 1992 and is held in very high regard within the musical industry. There was also a day dedicated to children, which included a competition at one of the city’s music schools in an effort to select players for an All-Russia Youth Orchestra that will debutin November and then play during the opening of the Winter Olympics in 2014.
Bashmet will next head to a festival close to his hometown of Moscow in a 1,000-year-old city called Yaroslavi. From May 9 through 16, this festival will include an impressive line-up of musicians as well.
