San Francisco 49ers To Break Ground On New Santa Clara Stadium April 19

The San Francisco 49ers announced that the official ground-breaking date for the new stadium will be April 19.

The announcement came after officials wrapped up the necessary financing needed for the project. The 49ers have been playing from worn-down Candlestick Park for more than 15 years. The new stadium will be located in Santa Clara in what used to be a parking lot across the street from the team offices at 4949 Centennial Blvd.

Last year, the team secured $850 million in loans, which will go toward the $1.2 billion stadium. Although legal issues regarding financial planning threatened the project’s start date, the dismissal of the claims has allowed it to continue forward.

The 49ers have plans to build one of the most technologically advanced stadiums in the world, and with Silicon Valley right around the corner, it’s not a far-fetched feat. Portions of the budget are being allocated toward technology that hasn’t even been invented yet, and since the host of Superbowl L has yet to be announced, expect San Francisco to be a strong contender for the role.
