As the Moscow restaurant scene begins to see an increase in demand for more creative menu designs and expanding product selection, the city prepares for the Omnivore Food Festival (OFF) World Tour, which will take place this week.
The Omnivore Food Festival, which began in Deauville, France in 2005, will take place this week in Moscow and include eateries such as Grand Cru, Delicatessen and Ragout. Young chefs from around the world will unite in Moscow to demonstrate their culinary abilities through live cooking demonstrations and special menus presented in local restaurants.
This year will mark the second time that Moscow has hosted the touring festival, which will subsequently move on to 12 cities throughout the year such as Shanghai, New York, San Francisco, Istanbul and Copenhagen.
Natalia Palacios, director of the Moscow festival, said, “I decided that this festival was something Moscow really needed, something young, fresh and not snobbish. Focusing on fresh produce has never happened in Moscow, and so it makes the festival quite revolutionary. The challenge is to create something extraordinary, but using very ordinary seasonal products. But can you imagine finding local seasonal products in Moscow at the end of April? It’s a real challenge. ”
Fresh local produce takes center stage in every host city, including Moscow, despite the long winters.
Master classes at Gostiny Dvor will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and tickets are available to the public online. Reservations to dine at participating restaurants are also available.
