New Surf School Opens in Waikiki by Champion Surfer Kai Sallas

It’s not every day you get to learn how to surf in Waikiki from not only a professional but former world champ.

The 12-time contest winner and professional longboarder — in his last season ranked No. 2 in the world — Kai Sallas opened a new surf school this month at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.

Sallas, who grew up surfing the waves of Waikiki, continues his father’s tradition of surf instruction with Pro Surf School Hawaii, which offers everything from group surfing instruction to surf tours of Oahu’s famed North Shore.

“With Pro Surf School Hawaii now on-site, our guests have the perfect opportunity to learn water safety and surf techniques, tailored to his or her skill level,” said Michael Nisky, general manager of Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. “Our beachfront location is especially convenient for guests to practice the skills they have learned, with a safe surf break just a quick paddle away.”

The hotel is offering a surf vacation package, starting at $244 per room per night. In addition to a guest room overlooking Waikiki Beach, this package includes a two-hour surf lesson for two by professional surf instructors and a two-day surfboard rental.

The school is located in the tour lobby of the hotel. For reservations call (800) 367-5370 or (808) 343-9667.
