Already expected to be one of the year’s biggest movies, “The Hunger Games” had their world premiere in Los Angeles on Monday. Hours before the stars of the film arrived at the event, hundreds of fans lined the black carpet and hundreds more lined up behind barricades across the street.
The fans have apparently spoken – “The Hunger Games” is going to be a massive hit. Hundreds of fans who won tickets to the world premier of the film screamed in excitement and applauded in approval during the showing.
One fan, Ruzena Zatko, 28, drove from Las Vegas and spent two nights camping out in front of the Nokia Theatre to win passes to the premiere. After she watched the movie, she said, “I thought it was amazing. He stayed true to the book.”
“The Hunger Games” film is based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling book by the same title. The movie features up and coming actors Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Kalia Prescott, Jack Quaid and Isabelle Fuhrman and is about the teens struggle for survival in a world controlled by the government in which annual televised games are hosted where the participants are forced to kill their opponents.
The movie will open in theatres on March 23 and it could bring in more than $100 million in ticket sales during opening weekend. Though some compare “The Hunger Games” to “Twilight,” some fans disagree.
“This doesn’t focus on the love triangle. She’s actually doing something. Bella just sits there,” said Stephanie Zatko, 22, who was at the premiere.
Actress Elizabeth Banks, who plays Effie Trinket in “The Hunger Games,” said, “The passion of these fans is unlike anything I have ever been involved with. For me the biggest star here is Suzanne Collins, who wrote the books and is the creator of this entire universe, all this pandemonium.”
Also in attendance at the Los Angeles premiere was singer (and Liam Hemsworth’s girlfriend) Miley Cyrus, Kelly Osbourne, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Kendall and Kylie Jenner,
