From February 10th through the 17th, Tour de France Restaurant Group will celebrate the fifth edition of their much-anticipated Winter Stinky Cheese Festival. The event features som eof Manhattan’s best This year’s festival has a new twist: a competitive sommelier smack-down between Café D’Alsace’s Beer Sommelier Gianni Cavicchi and Nice Matin’s Wine Sommelier Aviram Turgeman to determine if wine or beer pair best with the stinkiest of cheeses.
This week-long, city wide fromage-fest will feature specialty stinky cheese-centric menus for lunch and dinner from executive chefs at top French restaurants including Nice Matin, Marseilles, Café D’Alsace, French Roast, Le Monde, L’Express, Maison and Pigalle. Diners will enjoy some of the world’s most aromatic cheeses perfectly paired with a delightful array of wines and beers. Guests can vote on their favorite pairings – via the Tour de France Facebook page to be entered into a raffle to win a $200 gift card to the Tour de France Restaurant Group.
On the evening of February 9th at 404 Event Space (404 10th Avenue at 33rd Street), these two experts will go head to head during a kick-off event with such pairings as Stilton with Uinta Anniversary Barley and Vintage Port, Epoisse with Cigar City Maduro Oatmeal Brown Ale and white Burgundy and Alsatian Muenster with Meteor Wendelinus or a dry Gewurztraminer. There will even be a guest judging committee to determine the winners.
In addition to the “ringside” entertainment, there will be savory Tour de France restaurant signature dishes including Raclette from French Roast and L’Express; Bleu Cheese Ice Cream from Pigalle; Short Ribs with Epoisse, Caramelized Onions & Burgundy Wine Sauce by Marseilles; Stinky Kenaffe from Barbounia; Goat Cheese Tarte from Café D’Alsace and Stinky Cheese Tortelloni with butter & truffle oil from Nice Matin all served with craft beers and top wines.
