San Francisco Ballet Offers Valentine’s Day Discount with 2-for-1 tickets

Nothing is more classically romantic than dinner and then attending the ballet.  San Francisco Ballet celebrates love by offering a special offer where tickets are priced 2-for-1.

Feburary 14th is the opening night for Program 2 which features 3 vignettes.  It’s the world premiere of Beaux, composed by Bohuslav Martinu and choreographed by Mark Morris.  This new dance for San Francisco Ballet is for nine men and features a revitalization of the long forgotten harpsichord as the focal musical instrument.  For this new ballet, says Morris, “I wanted to make up a dance with all the gentlemen that is not just about what men are compelled to do in the ballet industry. I’m not that interested in the big, hard steps. My work is difficult and virtuosic in a way that isn’t exploding in midair; that’s something I’m not wild about seeing. I want a wider range of dancing than I often see in the ballet language. And [the men] aren’t used to partnering each other, so that makes them crazy, and it’s beautiful.”

Also featured is Chroma which was created in 2006 for The Royal Ballet, Chroma made its Company premiere at San Francisco Ballet during the 2011 Repertory Season.  In this ballet, Wayne McGregor the choreographer, views his dancers as architectural elements and the movement of the bodies are pushed to the extreme in many ways, intertwined with the more delicate intricacies.  Filling out the program is Number Nine, choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon with music by Michael Torke.  This ballet has 24 dancers dancing through with electrifying energy and music.
