Many may remember the Rodarte sisters, Laura and Kate Mulleavy for their ingenious costumes created for the stellar movie “Black Swan” starring Natalie Portman as a ballerina. Well this spring, the sisters have another phenomenal opportunity to create more thrilling costumes for the Los Angeles Philharmonic in May for the production of “Don Giovanni.” This production will include a set by no other than Frank Gehry, who is infamous for creating Downtown L.A.’s Walt Disney Concert Hall and will also be directed by Christopher Alden.

This seems to be a dream for the Mulleavys. “To be a part of the legacy of ‘Don Giovanni’ is an amazing opportunity. Working with Frank Gehry in the concert hall that he designed, alongside [conductor] Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, is a dream.”

It seems with one big production under the Mulleavys’ belt the sisters have always been destined for greatness. According to Laura and Kate Mulleavy, “Opera has always been a part of us; our grandmother was from Rome and studied it as a young girl.”
