The London Short Film Festival is currently in its ninth year presenting the best in UK short filmmaking talent. This year’s event kicks off this week in London’s best independent cinemas and venues.

Showcasing amazing short films, the London Short Film Festival (LSFF) also features exciting live music shows and parties. But the main event is dedicated to highlighting cutting-edge UK independent film. The festival is known for cross-arts programming and every year the festival has a large and loyal audience that flock to screenings.

This year the LSFF is even bigger than ever with around seventy events taking place over ten days in 22 venues. Included in the festivities is something called “Straight8’s ‘Silent Disco’ Show,” which takes place next Tuesday and will feature 20 films shown simultaneously. Audience members are able to select the film they want to watch through wireless headphones.

Other events include “Disability in Film,” “Young Urban Filmmakers” and “Occupy London Stock Exchange.”

Philip Ilson and Kate Taylor organized the first Halloween Short Film Festival in 2003 and in 2008 the festival transformed into the London Short Film Festival, each year taking in more films, live music, training events and venues. Ilson is now the Festival Producer along with Chloe Roddick.

Over 5,000 tickets have been sold and 75% of events have been sold to capacity.
