Haute Event: Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte and More Debut ‘Luck’ at Mandalay Bay

HBO headed to Mandalay Bay Thursday night to celebrate the release of its new original series, “Luck,” a behind-the-track look at the world of horse racing starring Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte, from acclaimed director Michael Mann and “Deadwood” creator David Milch.

The night featured prominent cast members including Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte, Dennis Farina and Jill Hennessy as well as more than 200 of the nation’s top handicappers who were in town for the National Handicapping Challenge.

Event attendees experienced the new drama at a private advance screening at the Mandalay Bay Theatre and then headed to miX Lounge at THEhotel for an exclusive post-screening party and celebration.

The evening also generated excitement around the HBO “Luck” $50,000 Challenge — a chance for Facebook users to try their handicapping skills with the chance to win $50,000 at www.facebook.com/LUCKHBO. Picks must be placed today by noon.

“Luck”premieres Sunday, Jan. 29, at 9 p.m.
