Hoping to stop drunken revelers, Central Moscow has banned the sale of alcohol in the city centre on New Year’s Eve night.

Shops in central Moscow will stop the sale of all alcoholic drinks at 7pm on December 31 and cannot resume until 8am the next day.

The alcohol ban will not affect the city’s suburban areas.
