In celebration of the extraordinary life and legacy of Elizabeth Taylor, Christie’s New York will hold a four day auction of the icon’s spectacular jewelry, fashion, and art collection taking place December 13th through 16th. One of the highlights of the auction is the magnificent Lord Kalla watch from Vacheron Constantin, estimated at $300,000-$500,000. It is no surprise that the stunning diamond and gold bracelet, a gift from dear friend Michael Jackson, captured the heart of Elizabeth Taylor who had a clear love and appreciation for beautiful jewelry.
This year, the world’s oldest watch manufacture adds to its Kalla family with the Kalla Haute Couture à Pampilles. This couture timepiece revives the tradition of “secret” watches that enabled 19th century watch wearers to check time in an exquisitely discreet manner. Set with a combination of brilliant, princess and flame-cut diamonds, the precious stones conceal an entire diamond-paved dial. With the subtle motion of four delicate mobile strands, the Kalla Haute Couture à Pampilles literally comes to life on the wrist.
The historically record-breaking Kalla line of diamond watches from Vacheron Constantin’s artistic Metiers d’Art collection originated in 1979 with the Kallista watch, setting a record at the time with 118 emerald-cut diamonds for a total of 130 carats. Since then, Vacheron Constantin has built upon the Kalla legacy with a succession of celebrated diamond watches that has captured the attention of the luxury world. In 2001, the elegant Lady Kalla won the title of “Montre Joaillerie du Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève” and again in 2009, Vacheron Constantin set a new jewelry record with the Kallania, set with 186 diamonds for a total of 157 carats. At this time, Vacheron Constantin unveiled an extremely unique diamond cut – the flame – which is the only one of its kind to feature a right and left cut for exceptional brilliance. The flame cut is now a signature and exclusive feature of the brand.
