“I’m a downtown guy,” he said. “I grew up down here. I’m from here; it’s where I love to be.”

Good Property Company has just landed in New York City.

“We are so excited to be in New York,” said Josh Gurwitz, founder and president of the real estate firm Good Property Company and its brokerage division, Good Property. Good Property Company is a real estate firm specializing in property development, brokerage, investments, consulting and financing.

But this isn’t just another real estate firm. Gurwitz, who studied at Parsons The New School for Design and the New York School of Interior Design and worked under interior designers such as Clodagh and preeminent architectural firm Gensler, uses his aesthetic knowledge and experience to create what he likes to call a “design-driven firm.”

Good Property Company came to fruition two years ago in Miami, Florida. It started as a residential development firm but quickly grew into a much larger, international company. The first step of the expansion was to branch off into investment, making acquisitions in South Florida and New York. But Gurwitz wanted something more.

“Earlier this year we expanded to New York City, where I’m originally from,” he said. “I moved back from Miami to New York to open up the Good Property Company office here.”

Within the last six months, Good Property Company has started two residential developments in New York City, has acquired a number of additional assets for future development and is expanding internally as well.

The primarily downtown firm joined forces with ex-Douglas Elliman broker Todd Lewin and formed the brokerage division of Good Property Company, aptly named Good Property. Good Property deals with sales, marketing, investment sales, and financing. Because Miami and New York City weren’t enough, the company recently opened an office in London as well.

Regardless of his geographically diverse business pursuits, Gurwitz is a true New Yorker.

“I’m a downtown guy,” he said. “I grew up down here. I’m from here; it’s where I love to be.” So it’s no wonder, then, that New York City is his favorite place to work. But the passion doesn’t stop there; each location of the company has deep roots where it’s located.

“I have a British partner who is in England, I have a partner in Miami who has lived there for 20 years,” Gurwitz said. “And I’m from New York. Each partner represents their market and because of the relationships that we have in each city, well, that’s what drives a lot of our success.”

Aside from each of the partners’ dedication to their city, another driving force behind this company’s success is an interest in architecture, design, construction and aesthetics. “We’re very driven by design and work predominately with Turett Collaborative Architects, who we feel are one of the most thoughtful firms in the market,” Gurwitz said. “We are client-driven. When we build or buy something, there’s a story that’s going to be told once we’re finished repositioning the property.”

This hands-on approach very much lends itself to the family-like atmosphere at Good Property Company.

“We’re all like a family,” he said. “We look at it that way. We all travel together, eat dinner together and most importantly, work hard together.”

As for now, Gurwitz will be spending as much of his time in New York City as he can, and in true New Yorker fashion, is always looking for the next big thing–in real estate, of course.
