American shoppers were out in full force on Black Friday, which for most stores began at midnight after Thanksgiving. According to reports, despite (or perhaps because of) the tough economy, $11.4 billion was spent on one of the biggest shopping days ever.
There were a few incidents of pepper spraying and fighting amongst shoppers, but over all the Americans who went out for Black Friday made it one of the most successful shopping days of the year. Consumers shelled out an incredible $11.4 billion this year, a 6.6% increase over last year’s totally, and a new record.
The astonishing total reflects a boost in both online spending and in-store spending. Many believe that a strong Black Friday is a positive indicator of what’s to come for the holiday season in terms of spending.
